Western Australia From Above
When I was invited to be an aerial photographer for a powerline inspection project in Western Australia, I was ecstatic. Flying over WA had been a long-time dream of mine because of its unique landscapes. I wasn’t let down by what I saw.
This vast, mineral-rich state, with its diverse climates, is largely uninhabitable—especially in the interior. Yet, even in the most remote, isolated areas, hours from civilisation, I was surprised to find 4WD tracks crisscrossing in all directions. We were flying at a low altitude in a helicopter, giving us a close-up view of all the finer details of this state through the window - something I had to pinch myself about.
Artist Notes:
Western Australia is a photographer’s playground, full of patterns, shapes, and textures. Whether in the desert or along the coast, the landscapes were incredibly diverse and fun to capture.
This series reminded me of my older series from 2018, ‘Melbourne’, where I explored using vibrant colors and patterns to make the images feel more like paintings. While this series is more muted in tone, it still carries that painterly quality—a style I deeply enjoy capturing and editing.
